Your gifts enable us to help more children through expanded clinic hours and services.
- For over 90 years, Baby Health Service has been helping local children ages birth-12 years by providing quality medical care free of charge.
- Last year, over 3,000 children received health care, medicine, and immunizations at our clinic.
- Baby Health offers office visits for sick children, as well as routine checkups, dental exams, lab tests, X-rays, and referrals for specialized treatments for children in the Greater Lexington Area whose families do not qualify for a medical card and cannot afford insurance.
- Open Monday through Friday, 7:30 – noon, Baby Health has a well-qualified staff consisting of three RN’s, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and eleven volunteer doctors.
A History of Caring
- Baby Health began as Mothers’ Milk Supply in 1914 to supply formula to infants of indigent families.
- In 1997, the clinic received the President’s Service Award for volunteerism from the Points of Light Foundation.
- In 2002, Baby Health received the Daily Points of Light Award, honoring volunteer groups that meet critical needs in their communities.
- In 2006, Chief of Staff, Dr. William Underwood, received the Destiny Award from Kentucky Child Now for his positive impact to the future of Kentucky’s children.
- In 2009, Baby Health received the Central KY Volunteer Award for a Nonprofit Organization.
Giving for the Future
- Through the volunteer efforts of our physicians and board members, Baby Health Service is able to keep its operating costs to a minimum. A pediatric nurse practitioner and three RN’s are the only paid staff at the clinic.
- Since our patients pay nothing for treatment, Baby Health absorbs the rising costs of medicines, lab tests, and immunizations.
- By educating parents about healthy habits during routine physical examinations, children are likely to become ill less often.
- Healthy children mean fewer emergency room visits and fewer missed school days.
